Dudhwa National Park

As a Wildlife Sanctuary, Dudhwa National Park Uttar Pradesh is established in 1958, and in 1977, it has declared a National Park. The park is situated on the Indo-Nepal border in the Lakhimpur Kheri District and it represents one of the few remaining secured areas of the assorted and productive Terai ecosystem, supporting various endangered species, restricted distribution species, and obligate species of tall wet grasslands. Many rivers flow in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve area such as the Ghagra River inflows Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary and Suheli, Sharda River by the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, and Mohana stream flows in Dudhwa National Park.

The park has an extensive number of leopards and tigers, although the thick vegetation makes it challenging to spot one. The area had a good number of Indian one-horn rhinos that eventually fell to random poaching. The Rhino from Assam’s Kaziranga in 1984 has once again thrived in the park. With the major environmental success, the park now posses of almost 30 rhinos that are very likely to be spotted on the safari on the elephant's back. The park has swamp deer that is also known as “Barasingha” locally, Sambar, elephants, Hog deers, Cheetal, Monkeys, Langurs, and a host of other animals. Almost 800 varieties of birds are there in the park including the Great Pied Hornbill, Kingfishers, Flycatchers, Drongos and etc.

History of Dudhwa National Park

The story of the Dudhwa Tiger National Park is the story of Billy Arjan Singh. The royal prince belongs to the Kapurthala family and was born in Gorakhpur Uttar Pradesh. He was the first who tried to reintroduce leopards and tigers from captivity into the Wild. To meet the pledge of securing the dwindling wild animals and for Saving Tigers, Billy found a small place in the swamp jungle of Dudhwa. Arjan settled in a small hut and lived there all his life. During his life course, he saved lots of wild animals from Swamp Deer on side of Dudhwa Wildlife Sanctuary.

Best Time to Visit Dudhwa National Park

This is the important thing to know whether the park is open or not if you are planning to explore the sightseeing in Dudhwa. Nov to May is the best time to visit Dudhwa National Park every year. The Dudhwa National Park Wildlife Sanctuary remains open to the public from 15th Nov to 15th June every year.
