Katarniaghat Wildlife SanctuaryThe Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the upper part of the Gangetic plain that falls in the Bahraich Terai the district of Uttar Pradesh, India. This forest has strategic connectivity to the tiger habitats of the Dudhwa National Park and Kishanpur in Nepal and India. The sanctuary consists of a mosaic of Teak and Sal forests, various swamps, lush grasslands, and wetlands as well. Many rare species like tiger, gharial, Gangetic dolphin, rhino, Hispid hare, Swamp deer, Bengal Florican, Long-billed, and White-backed Vultures found their home in this forest. Visitors can witness so many Mammals, Birds, and Reptiles as well.
The Katarniaghat Dudhwa Wildlife Sanctuary is known for having a large area of around 400 square kilometer and is a core portion of the Dudhwa National Park. The buffer area is around 150 square kilometer is nearby to the wildlife sanctuary commonly in the Kakraha and Motipur partition range. The Katarniaghat Sanctuary forest area has the unique complex of the Sal Forest's tall & lengthy grass lands and the riparian ecosystem of the Kaudiyala & Girwa streams of the wonderful Ghaghra River. The Katarniaghat Sanctuary has a vast assortment of varied habitats is vastly rich & popular in biodiversity and has rare species of avifauna, plants, and mammals.

The division of Katarniaghat became the Sanctuary in the year of 1976 and was also included in the Tiger Project in the year 2003. In this flora, Sal Forest is known for its associated tree species. The climatic variation of the entire area is very beautiful and located in the plains of North India with the extremes of cold & heat. At Katarniaghat sanctuary winter night is very foggy & cold and has beautiful dew falling on a constant basis with the result that the flora remains dampness for most of the day & night.
Trained and experienced nature guides are available there at Kakraha and Motipur campuses for guiding tourists and interpreting the sanctuary while visiting inside. These guides are certified and registered with the UP Forest Department and are helpful in spotting wildlife while the trip. As per the rules and regulations specified for the visitors, taking one guide per vehicle is very necessary for all tourists.
